About this metric

What it measures

Spent Volume Aged 1w–1m sums the daily BTC value of spent outputs that had remained unspent for one week to one month. This BTC-per-day measure sits between days-old circulation and spending from outputs held for multiple months.

How to read it

An expanding reading shows coins re-entering circulation after a pause measured in weeks, while a shrinking one points to reduced activity in that age window. The series logged about 142,826 BTC on November 28, 2022; its 2025 maximum was about 60,509 BTC on July 14. Compare these discrete bursts with the surrounding days to distinguish one-off movements from sustained turnover.

The age window rolls forward each day, so lower spending can reflect a smaller pool of eligible outputs as well as a change in behaviour. Exchange withdrawals, wallet consolidations and internal transfers can all enter this unadjusted total. It does not reveal whether recent participants added to or reduced their net exposure.

FAQ

Does the m in 1w–1m mean minutes?

No. Here w means week and m means month. The band groups outputs spent after one week to one month of inactivity; hours are shown separately as h.

Can this volume decline while the number of held coins rises?

Yes. This series counts spending from the band, whereas its unspent balance also changes as younger coins age into it and older coins age out. A flow and a balance can move in opposite directions.

Does week-to-month spent volume measure net capital leaving Bitcoin?

No. Every on-chain transfer has a receiving side, and the metric adds gross BTC spending without identifying a purchase or sale. Capital flows require additional price and ownership context.
