Entity-Adjusted Short-Term Holder Dormancy is coin days destroyed attributed to the short-term cohort divided by its corresponding BTC transfer volume, with recognized internal transfers filtered out. It measures BTC-weighted age in days within the recent-holder group, conventionally separated near 155 days.
Higher readings indicate that coins held for longer within the short-term group account for more of its transfers; lower readings indicate faster reuse of younger coins. In 2022 the range was about 4.92 to 42.66 days, with the high on February 28, showing substantial variation without involving the long-term cohort.
This is the age of transferred coins, not the average age of all short-term holdings. Cohort assignment and ownership clustering are estimates, and changes in transfer volume can move the ratio independently of total age expenditure. A rise does not establish profit taking or loss realization.
Yes. Transfers can shift from very young coins toward older coins that still belong to the short-term cohort. The reading then rises without any increase in long-term holder activity.
Dormancy describes the age of coins that move, in days. STH-NUPL measures unrealized profit or loss on the cohort's holdings relative to their market value; it can change even when those holdings do not move.
The BTC-weighted age of the eligible short-term transfers is about a month. It does not mean every output is 30 days old or that holders plan to keep their coins for another month.
