About this metric

What it measures

Entity-Adjusted Spent Volume Aged 3m–6m records the BTC amount moved daily after three to six months unspent, with recognized same-entity transfers excluded. It measures a flow of medium-age coins, in BTC, rather than their remaining balance.

How to read it

More volume means holdings formed months earlier are circulating again; less volume suggests reduced spending from that age range. The band recorded about 76,237 BTC on June 15, 2022, and about 83,962 BTC on January 12, 2024, so renewed activity alone does not establish whether holders are in profit or under stress.

This interval straddles the roughly 155-day boundary used for short- and long-term holders, so it is not a pure cohort measure. The amount of eligible supply and entity-classification errors can also move the reading independently of a change in willingness to spend.

FAQ

Is the 3m–6m band entirely short-term holder volume?

No. The conventional threshold is about 155 days, inside this band. Some qualifying coins fall on either side, so the whole band cannot be assigned to short-term or long-term holders.

Why can 3m–6m volume rise months after a burst of activity?

Coins moved during that earlier period become eligible if they remain unspent long enough. A larger pool of eligible holdings can support higher volume even without a higher proportion being spent.

Does this metric show whether three-to-six-month holders made a profit?

No. It reports BTC moved without comparing the current price with their previous transfer price. Realized profit or loss metrics provide that additional cost information.
