Total Exchange Outflow Volume sums the BTC transferred out of tracked exchange addresses each day. It measures gross outgoing coin volume in BTC, without subtracting deposits into exchanges.
Higher outflows show heavier withdrawal activity, potentially toward self-custody, institutional custody or another venue. The daily record was about 286,451 BTC on March 13, 2020, and the 2022 high was about 150,356 BTC on November 9. Such large withdrawals can occur amid disruption, so outflows alone should not be read as confident accumulation.
Gross withdrawals do not show whether exchange balances fell: deposits may be even larger. Transfers between venues, wallet operations and address-label changes can affect readings, while withdrawal timing can differ from trade timing. Compare with inflows, net flow and reserves over several days.
Yes. If deposits exceed withdrawals, net flow remains positive and balances can increase despite heavy outflows. Gross outflows show only one side of the movement.
No. A withdrawal can follow an earlier purchase or simply move existing holdings to another wallet or custodian. The chart does not identify the associated trade, if any.
Net flow is inflow minus outflow. Outflows are reported as a positive BTC amount here; a larger outflow only makes net flow more negative if inflows do not offset it.
