Exchange Net Flow by Transfer Size subtracts daily BTC withdrawals from deposits within each USD transfer-size band: <$10K, $10K–100K, $100K–1M, $1M–10M and $10M+. Each plotted balance is in BTC, with positive values indicating net inflow and negative values net outflow for that band.
Positive upper bands show larger transfers adding BTC to exchanges on balance; negative upper bands show larger withdrawals dominating. Smaller bands can move in the opposite direction and partly offset them. In 2024, the $10M+ band ranged from about -28,397 BTC on July 31 to +43,231 BTC on July 16, showing how large transfers can drive sharp changes.
Size bands classify transfers, not the identities or motives of their owners. BTC price changes can reassign similar BTC amounts to different USD bands, while wallet migrations and exchange address labels can create outliers. Deposits may support collateral or custody rather than immediate trading, so compare several days and the all-exchange total.
USD value determines which size band a transfer enters. Once classified, deposits and withdrawals are summed in BTC and subtracted to give that band's net flow.
Yes. Positive net flow in one or more large bands can be outweighed by negative balances elsewhere. The combined net flow depends on the sum across bands, not the direction of any one group.
No. Transfer value does not identify the owner. Large holders, exchanges, custodians and services can all make transfers in this band, including moves unrelated to a change in market exposure.
