About this metric

What it measures

Exchange Net Flow Reliance by Exchange expresses net BTC flow with other exchanges relative to each venue's tracked BTC balance over the measurement window. The signed ratio is capped between -1 and 1 and displayed as -100% to 100%; Coinbase, Binance and other venue series are separate measurements.

How to read it

Positive readings indicate net BTC arriving from other exchanges, while negative readings indicate net BTC leaving for them. Larger absolute values identify more intense net transfers relative to the venue's balance. On October 17, 2026, Coinbase read about 2.48% and Binance about -3.72%, demonstrating that venue-level directions can differ on the same date.

The balance denominator, calculation window and address attribution all influence the ratio. A small balance can magnify modest flows, while caps conceal differences beyond the displayed endpoints; compare with reserves and BTC flow amounts, and do not read this as a solvency score or sum the venue percentages.

FAQ

Why can exchange net flow reliance be negative?

The sign records direction: outflows to other exchanges exceeded inflows from them over the measurement window. A negative value is a flow imbalance, not a negative BTC reserve.

Is reliance measured in BTC or percent?

It is a dimensionless ratio displayed as percent. For example, the recorded Coinbase value of 0.02477 on October 17, 2026 is 2.477% before rounding, not 0.02477 BTC.

Does a small reliance ratio prove an exchange is safe?

No. Netting can hide large opposing flows, and a large reserve denominator can keep the ratio small. Customer liabilities and the availability of assets cannot be established from this indicator.
