Realized Cap by Holding Period groups unspent outputs by the time since they last moved and sums each group's BTC amounts multiplied by their prices at creation. The 12 age bands, from <24h to >10y, are shown in USD, with Total representing their combined cost basis.
Growth in <24h or 1d–1w shows more cost basis assigned to recently moved coins; growth in 1y–2y can reflect coins aging into that band without moving. In this history, 1m–3m reached $254.51 billion on December 23, 2025, then stood at $84.81 billion on October 17, 2026. Follow adjacent bands and Total to distinguish redistribution across ages from changes in aggregate cost basis.
These are dollar amounts, not supply percentages or the average cost per coin. A band can shrink because coins mature into the next band or are spent, and wallet reshuffles can reset age and cost without a sale. Old coins with very low recorded costs contribute little even when their BTC quantity is large; band growth alone does not establish fresh capital inflow.
HODL Waves show each age band's share of BTC supply. This chart weights coins by their last-move prices and shows their aggregate cost in USD, so recently moved high-cost coins can have a much larger weight.
Yes. An unspent output moves into an older band as time passes, carrying its existing cost basis with it. Aging redistributes value between bands without changing Total by itself.
Realized Cap by Age is the total dollar cost basis in each band. Dividing that amount by the BTC supply in the same band gives its Realized Price, an average cost per BTC.
