Total Block Size adds the byte sizes of all blocks recorded in a day, measured in bytes per day. It is daily data added to the chain, not the accumulated size of the blockchain and not a percentage of available capacity.
A higher total can come from more blocks, larger average blocks, or both. Daily throughput reached about 456.22 million bytes, or 456.22 decimal MB, on March 23, 2023; compare the total with Mean Block Size to separate changes in block pace from changes in data per block.
Actual bytes and consensus block weight are different measures, so a fixed daily byte ceiling cannot be inferred from this series. Witness composition, data-heavy transactions and random block counts affect it, while unconfirmed demand still waiting in the mempool is absent.
No. Each point sums only that day’s blocks. Cumulative blockchain storage would require adding across days and also depends on what a node stores.
For the same set of blocks, total bytes equals average bytes per block times the number of blocks. Small differences can appear when displayed values are rounded.
Not by itself. More blocks can raise the total even without heavier competition for inclusion, and the transaction mix affects byte size. Fees and pending transactions provide additional context.
