Mean UTXO Value Spent divides the total BTC value of outputs spent each day by the number of those outputs. It measures the average value of a consumed transaction input, in BTC, rather than the average payment sent.
A rising mean points to larger outputs being consumed, while a falling mean suggests smaller inputs account for more of the activity. The historical scale has changed substantially: the series peaked near 2,097 BTC in February 2010, whereas its entire 2024 range was below 2 BTC.
Large wallet transfers can dominate the mean, and consolidating many small outputs changes the input mix without requiring a change of owner. Compare it with the median and spent-output count; it does not measure trade size, profit or the amount received by a payment recipient.
Add the BTC value of every output consumed as a transaction input during the day, then divide by the number consumed. A transaction using several inputs contributes several spent outputs.
A small number of very large outputs can lift the arithmetic mean while leaving the middle of the distribution almost unchanged. On October 17, 2026, the mean was about 0.631 BTC, compared with a median of about 0.000559 BTC.
It shows that larger inputs are being spent on average, but it does not identify their owners. Custody migrations and transfers between a holder’s own wallets can produce the same change.
