Cosa misura

Total Exchange Inflow Volume is the sum of BTC transferred into tracked exchange addresses each day. It measures gross deposits in BTC without subtracting withdrawals, and is separate from the balance already held on exchanges.

Come leggerlo

Heavy inflows bring more BTC onto trading platforms, potentially for trading, collateral or settlement; quieter inflows mean fewer coins arriving through tracked deposits. The daily record was about 321,410 BTC on March 13, 2020, when the associated BTC price was about $5,018. This provides a scale reference for an extreme deposit day, not a price threshold.

Gross inflows cannot establish whether exchange balances increased, since withdrawals may be larger. Address relabeling and wallet operations can distort individual days, and the blockchain cannot show how deposited coins are subsequently used; compare inflows with outflows, net flow and reserves.

FAQ

How are total inflows different from exchange net flow?

Total inflows add all tracked deposits during the day. Net flow subtracts withdrawals from deposits, so large inflows can coexist with net outflow if even more BTC leaves.

Does every exchange inflow create sell pressure?

Deposited BTC becomes available on the platform, but may be used as collateral, inventory or settlement rather than sold. A deposit alone does not reveal an order or trade.

Are total inflows the same as exchange reserves?

No. Inflows measure BTC arriving during a period; reserves measure BTC held at a point in time. Repeated deposits and withdrawals can produce large flows while reserves change little.
