Cosa misura

Entity-Adjusted Transfer Volume Share by Size removes identified transfers within the same entity, groups the remaining transfers by USD size, and divides each group's value by the day's total adjusted transfer value. The six percentage series are $0–1K, $1K–10K, $10K–100K, $100K–1M, $1M–10M and $10M+.

Come leggerlo

When the upper bands widen, large transfers account for more of the day's settlement value; wider lower bands show a larger contribution from smaller transfers. The $10M+ band reached about 78.74% on May 28, 2024, demonstrating how a small number of very large transfers can dominate a value-weighted distribution.

Transfer size does not identify the sender as an institution or an individual. USD bands shift with BTC price, and a large band's share can rise because other activity contracts. Entity clustering is an estimate, so use absolute volume alongside the shares and avoid reading custody transfers as confirmed market demand.

FAQ

Does a 50% large-transfer share mean half of transactions are large?

No. The chart weights transferred value, not transaction count. A handful of large transfers can account for half the value while remaining a small fraction of the transactions.

Why use entity-adjusted transfer volume?

Grouping addresses believed to have the same controller allows identified internal transfers to be removed. This reduces wallet reshuffling in the measure, though clustering cannot identify every internal move.

Can the size distribution change when the same BTC amounts move?

Yes. A change in BTC price alters the USD value of those transfers and can move them across fixed dollar thresholds. The chart therefore combines settlement behavior with price-based reclassification.
