Expanding volume means more BTC is moving above its cost reference, increasing the amount potentially involved in profit realization. A decline means less profitable coin volume is moving, but may also reflect quieter overall activity. This series reached roughly 4.154 million BTC on November 30, 2011; that exceptional early flow is not a benchmark for normal daily activity today.
Profitable transfers need not be sales, and repeated movement can count the same BTC more than once over time.
