Tietoa tästä mittarista

Mitä se mittaa

Supply in Loss sums the BTC in unspent outputs whose price at the last on-chain movement was above the current BTC price. It measures the number of coins held at a paper loss, in BTC, rather than the dollar value or depth of those losses.

Näin luet sitä

Rising readings mean more supply is underwater; falling readings mean fewer coins carry a last-move cost above the market price. The series reached about 10.60 million BTC on November 21, 2022 and a higher 10.83 million on June 30, 2026. Compare these absolute counts with circulating supply before judging how widespread losses were.

Price crossing a dense cost band can change the count sharply without any coins moving. Transfers also reset the estimated cost, even if ownership is unchanged. The figure does not reveal holders’ actual entry prices, leveraged positions or willingness to realize losses, and a high count does not establish a price floor.

Is Supply in Loss the dollar amount investors have lost?

No. It counts BTC whose estimated cost basis is above the current price. A small paper loss and a large paper loss each contribute the same coin amount.

How is this different from realized losses?

Supply in Loss describes unspent coins currently underwater. Realized losses concern coins spent at a price below their prior cost and measure a loss associated with that movement.

Can supply in loss decrease without holders moving coins?

Yes. A price recovery can move existing unspent outputs back into profit. The loss count then falls even if no on-chain transfer occurs.
