Mitä se mittaa

Supply by Output Creation Year adds up the BTC value of unspent outputs created in each calendar year. Each year label refers to the creation of the current output, normally its latest on-chain move, so the chart tracks surviving output vintages in BTC rather than annual mining production.

Large older groups show coins that have survived unspent since those calendar years; a shrinking older group shows outputs being consumed and replaced. The 2009 group still held about 1.087 million BTC on October 17, 2026, compared with about 1.625 million at the end of 2009. The current year, by contrast, can gain supply as transfers create replacement outputs.

A transfer between a holder's own addresses creates a new vintage without a change of owner. Early groups may include lost keys or patient holders, which this chart cannot distinguish. Calendar groups also differ in duration during the current year, so compare their BTC quantities with supply shares and the corresponding realized-cap groups.

Does the 2009 group show all bitcoin mined in 2009?

No. It shows BTC in outputs created in 2009 that remain unspent at the observation date. Coins mined then but moved later are assigned to the creation years of their newer outputs.

Can a completed creation-year group grow simply because coins get older?

No. Aging alone leaves a coin in its fixed creation-year group. Unlike rolling age bands, a completed year does not gain coins through maturation; its surviving outputs leave when spent.

Why compare supply by year with realized cap by year?

The supply chart gives every BTC equal weight; the realized-cap chart weights each output by its creation-time price. Together they distinguish a large stock of cheap old coins from a smaller stock carrying a higher recorded cost.
