Mitä se mittaa

Long-Term Holder Supply is the total BTC held in coins that have not moved on-chain for about 155 days or more. Coins join the cohort once they pass that age and leave it as soon as they are spent, which resets their age.

Näin luet sitä

A rising reading means more coins bought months ago are staying put, a pattern typical of bear markets and quiet accumulation phases. In bull markets long-term holders tend to sell into strength, and the supply has dropped noticeably around past cycle highs as aged coins changed hands.

The metric lags by design: coins entering the cohort today were acquired about five months earlier, so a rise reflects past buying, not current demand. Wallet reshuffles by exchanges or custodians can move old coins and cause drops unrelated to selling, and lost coins that will never move stay in the total.

Why does Long-Term Holder Supply usually fall in bull markets?

When long-term holders sell or move coins into rising prices, those coins reset their age and become short-term supply. If fewer coins mature into the cohort over the same period, the total declines, as seen late in past bull markets.

Does rising Long-Term Holder Supply mean people are buying now?

Not necessarily. Growth mainly comes from coins bought around 155 days earlier that have stayed unmoved, so it reflects holding behavior and lags current market activity by roughly five months.

Why does LTH Supply sometimes drop sharply without a market move?

Exchanges, custodians and large holders occasionally reorganize wallets, moving large amounts of old coins on-chain and resetting their age. Checking exchange inflows on the same days helps tell such reshuffles apart from real selling.
