Om denne måling

Hvad den måler

Entity- and Supply-Adjusted Coin Years Destroyed combines a 365-day rolling window of entity-adjusted CDD with normalization for circulating supply. It expresses annual destroyed age relative to supply, with a day-equivalent scale rather than the billions of BTC-days used by the unnormalized annual series.

Sådan læses den

Higher readings indicate heavier annual age expenditure relative to supply; lower readings indicate less. The series peaked near 437.7 on February 16, 2018, compared with about 284.6 at its 2021 high and 287.4 at its 2024 high, allowing comparison without the raw BTC-days scale dominating the chart.

Supply normalization does not remove the growing age of old coins, and entity filtering still depends on inferred ownership. Rolling-window exits can drive declines independently of current activity; the reading is not a percentage of coins sold, and it has no 100% ceiling.

FAQ

Why is this annual reading in the hundreds rather than billions?

Normalizing BTC-days by the millions of BTC in circulation removes the BTC-amount dimension and compresses the scale. A reading of 200 is a supply-relative age measure, not 200 BTC or 200% of holders.

Does 365 in the name mean only coins older than a year are counted?

No. It describes the window over which spending is accumulated. Eligible transfers from all coin ages contribute, with older coins naturally receiving more weight through their age.

What do the two adjustments leave unresolved?

They address recognized internal transfers and supply growth. They do not identify every owner, distinguish a transfer from a sale, or eliminate differences in the age structure of supply across cycles.
