Om denne måling

Hvad den måler

Entity-Adjusted STH ASOL averages the lifespan of eligible outputs spent by the short-term holder cohort, in days, excluding identified same-entity transfers. Cohort weights favor recent acquisition ages around the 155-day divide, while the average treats outputs equally rather than weighting them by BTC value.

Sådan læses den

A higher mean suggests recent holders are spending outputs that have sat longer; a lower mean points to faster recycling of young outputs. The 2021 yearly high was about 12.1 days on May 19, versus a full-history median near 5.2 days, so even shifts of a few days can be substantial for this cohort.

The age of outputs alone cannot distinguish profit-taking from transfers at a loss. Small-output activity and changes in cohort composition can move the average; compare it with STH SOPR and spent volume before attributing a change to investor stress.

FAQ

Why is STH ASOL usually only a few days?

An average is not the same as the cohort boundary. Recently created outputs can account for many of the outputs spent, keeping the mean well below the roughly 155-day classification boundary.

Is STH ASOL the average holding period of all short-term investors?

No. It describes eligible outputs that were spent that day. Coins that remain unspent do not enter the average, and one investor may contribute many outputs.

What does a falling STH ASOL tell us about turnover?

The outputs being spent are younger on average. That can reflect faster reuse of recent outputs, but without volume it does not tell us whether overall turnover increased.
