Om denne måling

Hvad den måler

Average Spent Output Lifespan (ASOL) is the average time between the creation and spending of transaction outputs spent on a given day, measured in days. It averages output ages by output count, rather than weighting them by their BTC amounts.

Sådan læses den

Higher ASOL means the outputs being spent are older on average; lower readings mean recently created outputs dominate activity. A rise can reveal dormant outputs returning to circulation. The series reached 551.4 days on June 26, 2022, and another large spike of 547.2 days on April 27, 2025, illustrating how uneven old-output activity can be.

Wallet migrations and consolidations can move old outputs without any change of owner. Because each output has equal weight, many small old outputs can matter more than one large output; newly created outputs can dilute the average. ASOL describes outputs that moved, not the age of all holdings or the amount offered to the market.

FAQ

How is Bitcoin ASOL calculated?

For each output spent during the day, measure the time since it was created in days, then divide the sum of those ages by the number of outputs counted. An output carrying a small BTC amount has the same weight as a large one.

What is the difference between ASOL and Coin Days Destroyed?

ASOL is an average age in days, with each counted output weighted equally. Coin Days Destroyed multiplies each spent output's BTC amount by its age and sums the results, so its unit is BTC-days and large transfers carry more weight.

Does a high ASOL mean long-term holders are selling?

It shows that older outputs are being spent, but spending on-chain does not establish a sale. A holder moving old coins to a new wallet also raises their contribution to ASOL; exchange flows can provide additional context.
