Om detta mått

Vad det mäter

Supply Share by Output Creation Year divides the BTC held in each creation-year output group by total supply and displays it as a percentage. The year labels identify when today's unspent outputs were created, giving each BTC equal weight regardless of its historical cost.

Så läser du det

A larger older-year share means more of the outstanding supply remains in that vintage; a rising current-year share means newer outputs occupy more of the total. The 2009 share was about 5.67% on October 17, 2022 and 5.41% on October 17, 2026, while its BTC balance changed only slightly. This illustrates how issuance can dilute an old vintage even with little spending.

A smaller share can come from new issuance as well as spending, and an internal wallet transfer can reassign supply to a later year. Calendar years do not roll forward like coin-age bands. Check the absolute BTC chart before attributing a percentage decline to older holders distributing coins, and do not equate unmoved supply with confirmed lost keys.

Vanliga frågor

Can a creation-year share decline without those coins moving?

Yes. New issuance increases the total-supply denominator, diluting an unchanged older balance. Spending from that group is another possible cause, which the BTC-denominated version helps distinguish.

How is this chart different from HODL Waves?

Here, an output stays under a fixed calendar label such as 2021 until it is spent. In HODL Waves, the same unspent output moves through rolling age bands as time passes, so the charts answer different questions about persistence.

Does a large current-year share measure new investors entering Bitcoin?

No. It includes replacement outputs created by existing owners, wallet reorganizations and newly mined coins. Output creation is observable, but a new investor or a change in beneficial ownership is not established by the year label.
