Om detta mått

Vad det mäter

Supply Last Active 3y–5y sums BTC in unspent outputs last moved on-chain between three and five years ago. It covers a two-year-wide range of long-dormant supply, with each output remaining in the band until spent or until it reaches five years of age.

Så läser du det

A rising balance means more outputs are surviving into this older range than are leaving through spending or further aging. Its recorded high was about 3.21 million BTC on June 11, 2017; the 2024 high was about 3.10 million on June 21. These sizable balances show that multi-year inactivity can persist across very different stages of Bitcoin's history.

The two-year width makes this band broader than the 1y–2y or 2y–3y groups, so a bigger balance does not by itself imply stronger conviction. Some coins may be inaccessible, while others can move at any time; spending also includes custody transfers. A fall accompanied by growth in 5y–7y can simply be maturation, not a return of old supply to the market.

Vanliga frågor

Are coins unmoved for three to five years necessarily lost?

No. Cold storage, long-term custody and lost keys can all produce the same inactivity. The chain only confirms whether an output has been spent, not whether its private key remains accessible.

Why can this band hold more BTC than adjacent older bands?

It covers two years of output ages, whereas 1y–2y and 2y–3y each cover one. Different amounts of historical activity and subsequent spending also affect balances, so band sizes are not directly comparable measures of holder conviction.

Where do these coins go when they reach five years?

If still unspent, they enter the 5y–7y band without an on-chain transaction. A shrinking 3y–5y balance therefore needs to be read alongside older bands before being described as dormant coins moving.
