Mempool Total Fees by Fee Rate Tier groups unconfirmed transactions by their offered fee rate in sat/vB and adds their fees within each band, in sats. The nine series run from 0–1 sat/vB to 50+ sat/vB; band labels describe fee rates, while plotted values are fee amounts.
Expansion in 10–50 sat/vB or 50+ sat/vB means more pending fee value sits in higher-rate bids, whereas growth in 1–2 sat/vB reflects lower-rate offers. The 50+ sat/vB series reached about 6,846 million sats on May 8, 2023, far above its full-history median of roughly 686K sats.
Fee totals combine transaction size, fee rate and the number waiting; they are not a pure measure of urgency. These fees have not yet been earned by miners, and confirmation, replacement or eviction can remove them. Daily observations cannot provide a current fee quote or guaranteed confirmation time.
A transaction’s fee rate determines its band. The fees offered by transactions in that band are then summed in sats, so the chart separates the price per unit of block space from the total fee value waiting.
Not necessarily. Fewer transactions with large sizes or high fee rates can offer more total fees than a band containing many small, cheap transactions. Compare with Mempool Transaction Count by Fee Rate Tier.
No. They are fees offered by transactions still awaiting confirmation in the observed mempool. Only inclusion in a block turns a transaction’s fee into revenue for that block’s miner.
