Mempool BTC Volume by Fee Rate Tier groups unconfirmed transactions by offered sat/vB fee rate and sums the BTC volume recorded in each band. Its nine series, from 0–1 sat/vB through 50+ sat/vB, measure pending coin amounts rather than fees or virtual bytes.
A larger band means more BTC volume is associated with transactions at that fee rate, without necessarily requiring more block space. The 10–50 sat/vB band reached about 261,257 BTC on April 10, 2022; that band’s volume peak differs from its fee-total peak in January 2024.
A large coin transfer can fit into a small transaction, so BTC volume is a weak proxy for congestion. Wallet change, internal transfers and transaction chains complicate economic interpretation, while node coverage affects which pending transactions are visible. The chart does not identify exchange deposits or actual trading.
No. BTC volume describes the coin amounts associated with pending transactions; fees are the amounts offered to miners for including them. Both are denominated in BTC but measure different things.
Not because of its BTC amount. Block-space competition and virtual size determine fees; moving more coins does not by itself require more virtual bytes.
The fee bands do not label transaction destinations or ownership. A spike may include self-transfers or custody movements, so it cannot establish that coins are reaching an exchange or being traded.
