Mitä se mittaa

The 30-Day Address Activity Retention Breakdown counts addresses by their activity status across 30-day comparison windows. New and Resurrected separate first-time activity from returning activity; Retained (balance up), Retained (balance flat) and Retained (balance down) divide repeat participants by balance change, while Churned and Dead identify exits from activity and continued inactivity.

Näin luet sitä

Larger New or Resurrected groups indicate activity coming from first-time or returning addresses; wider Retained groups show more repeat use. Churned grows when previously active addresses stop participating in the comparison window. New reached about 16.95 million on December 22, 2017, whereas Resurrected peaked at about 5.56 million on March 12, 2018: fresh activity and returning activity need not peak together.

These are address counts, not BTC amounts or percentages. Dead is hidden by default because the stock of inactive addresses can dwarf the other series; it does not establish that coins are lost. Change addresses, address rotation and service wallet operations can all create apparent churn without users leaving Bitcoin.

What is the difference between New and Resurrected addresses?

New represents addresses appearing in activity for the first time. Resurrected refers to previously seen addresses returning after an inactive comparison period, so it measures renewed use rather than first use.

Does Retained (balance flat) mean an address made no transactions?

No. In this activity breakdown it belongs to the retained activity group, with no net balance change. An address can send and receive BTC while finishing with the same balance.

Why is the Dead series so much larger than the other groups?

It includes previously seen addresses that remain inactive, including addresses no longer reused after spending. The series reached about 1.41 billion on October 17, 2026; it is not a count of lost wallets or deceased owners.
