Om detta mått

Vad det mäter

Realized Profit by Holding Period measures daily USD gains on coins spent above their previous last-move price, classified by age before spending. It multiplies each positive price difference by BTC volume and sums within bands from <24h to >10y, alongside Total.

Så läser du det

Higher readings in 1w–1m reflect gains on recent transfers, while 7y–10y or >10y highlight the repricing of old, potentially low-cost coins. On May 28, 2024, the 7y–10y band recorded about $9.32 billion against a $10.07 billion Total. One old-coin group can therefore account for most of a very large daily profit reading.

A large USD gain can come from a wide cost gap rather than unusually large BTC volume, and moving old coins does not prove they were sold. Wallet migrations reset age and measured cost, while dormant coins contribute nothing until spent. Use the breakdown to locate realized gains, not to infer all holders' unrealized profitability.

Vanliga frågor

Why can old coins generate such large realized profits?

Their last-move price may be far below the spending price, creating a large gain for each BTC transferred. The result combines that gain with the number of coins moved.

Is realized profit the full USD value of the coins spent?

No. It is only the positive difference between spending value and previous cost. The original cost is excluded, and coins spent below cost contribute to realized loss instead.

Can an age band show profit when Bitcoin's price falls?

Yes. Profit is measured against the coins' own last-move price, not yesterday's market price. Coins acquired much earlier can still move at a gain during a daily decline.
