Supply by Output Script Type adds up BTC in unspent outputs by their locking-script format. The categories are P2PK, P2PKH, P2SH, P2WPKH, P2WSH, P2TR and Other, covering early public-key outputs, legacy address formats, native SegWit, Taproot and remaining scripts; each series is measured in BTC.

Rising P2WPKH or P2WSH holdings show more value stored in native SegWit outputs, while P2TR tracks value in Taproot outputs. P2PKH reached about 12.75 million BTC on August 1, 2017; by October 17, 2026 it held about 4.55 million, versus about 8.29 million in P2WPKH. This shows a shift in stored value across formats, rather than a direct measure of transaction activity.
A custodian moving one large balance can change the distribution sharply without adding users. P2SH can wrap different spending arrangements, including nested SegWit, so it is not a pure multisignature or legacy bucket. Balances do not reveal transaction counts, fee savings, inscription activity or the security practices behind a wallet.

Which script types represent SegWit and Taproot?
P2WPKH and P2WSH are native SegWit formats, while P2TR is Taproot. P2SH can also contain nested SegWit, so counting only native formats does not capture every BTC held through a SegWit spending arrangement.
Does a rising P2TR balance mean Taproot transaction usage is rising?
It shows more BTC remaining in Taproot outputs. Transaction counts and transferred volume can move differently, since many small transfers may involve less stored BTC than one large custody deposit.
Does P2SH supply identify all multisignature holdings?
No. P2SH can represent several script arrangements, and multisignature policies can also use P2WSH or Taproot. The visible output format is not a complete description of who can spend the coins.
