O tym wskaźniku

Co mierzy

Spent Volume in Loss by Holding Period sums the BTC amount of coins spent at a price below their previous last-move cost, grouped by age just before spending. The series from <24h to >10y and Total are coin volumes in BTC, not dollar loss amounts or percentages.

Jak to czytać

An expanding young band shows more recently moved BTC being transferred below cost; a rise in older bands locates loss-bearing turnover in aged supply. On June 16, 2011, <24h reached about 4.06 million BTC and Total about 4.09 million BTC. That early extreme illustrates how rapid turnover can dominate volume even without equally old or deeply underwater coins.

The chart counts spent volume, not unique coins or people, so repeated transfers can count BTC more than once during a day. Wallet reshuffles and brief price changes can lift the young bands without market sales. A zero loss volume means no qualifying loss transfer was recorded, not that no coins of that age exist or moved.

FAQ

How does loss volume by age differ from realized loss by age?

Loss volume adds the BTC amounts spent below cost, regardless of how far below. Realized loss multiplies those amounts by the price shortfall and reports USD, so the two can peak on different days.

Why does the <24h group often matter so much?

Rapidly recirculating coins can move in large amounts, and even a small drop below their previous price qualifies them as loss volume. The band therefore captures short-lived turnover as well as economic loss transfers.

Do zero readings in the oldest bands mean old coins never move?

No. Old coins moved above cost are excluded from loss volume. In this snapshot 7y–10y and >10y remain zero throughout the supplied history; that only describes their recorded below-cost spending.
