Cosa misura

Realized Cap by Profit/Loss Status groups coins by their unrealized return, calculated as current price divided by last-move cost minus one. It sums each group's BTC multiplied by that recorded cost, in USD, across bands from <-78.6% to >300%, with Total showing the aggregate cost basis.

Come leggerlo

Expansion in -10% to 0% means more recorded cost is assigned to coins just below breakeven; deeper negative bands locate capital attached to more heavily underwater supply. The -78.6% to -61.8% band reached about $160.97 billion on November 9, 2022. Larger profitable bands indicate more cost basis associated with gains, rather than larger profit amounts themselves.

Coins migrate between return bands when price changes, even without transactions, so a band's growth is not automatically capital inflow. Very old low-cost coins have little weight here despite large BTC balances. Last-move costs are approximations, and the pre-market USD history requires care when making long-run comparisons.

FAQ

Are the negative bands dollar losses?

No. They hold the recorded cost basis of coins whose current percentage return is negative. The height of a band is the capital assigned to those coins, not the loss amount.

How does this differ from Market Cap by Profit/Loss Status?

Both classify coins by return, but this chart weights them at their last-move costs. The market-cap version weights the same groups at current price, so deeply profitable old coins can be much larger there.

Do the percentage labels show the share of total realized cap?

No. Labels such as 20% to 40% describe the coins' unrealized returns relative to cost. The plotted values are USD totals; dividing by Total would give each band's cost-basis share.
