Cosa misura

Exchange Reserves by Exchange splits the BTC balance of identified exchange wallet addresses by venue. Each series, such as Coinbase, Binance and Bitfinex, is the BTC held in that exchange's tracked addresses rather than its trading volume, total assets or customer liabilities.

Come leggerlo

A rising venue balance shows more BTC held in its tracked wallets; a falling balance shows less, while offsetting moves across venues can indicate redistribution. Coinbase's tracked balance peaked near 1.248 million BTC on July 27, 2021, whereas Binance's peak was about 779,922 BTC on June 3, 2023. Their different peak dates show why the venue breakdown adds context beyond a combined total.

Coverage starts at different dates for different exchanges, and newly identified wallets can revise history. Custody arrangements and wallet migrations affect attribution; a balance cannot prove asset ownership, liabilities, liquidity or solvency, and a transfer between exchanges does not by itself change their combined reserves.

FAQ

Are exchange reserves the same as proof of reserves?

This chart estimates BTC held in addresses attributed to each venue. It does not verify customer liabilities, legal ownership or control commitments, so it is not a complete proof-of-reserves or solvency assessment.

Can one exchange's reserves rise while total reserves fall?

Yes. Coins can move from other exchanges to that venue while larger withdrawals leave the tracked exchange system altogether. The venue and aggregate trends answer different questions.

Why do the exchange series start in different years?

Each series begins when data appears for the addresses attributed to that exchange. That date is a coverage boundary and should not be treated as the exchange's launch date.
