A mutatóról

Mit mér

Addresses with Balance ≥ 10K BTC counts Bitcoin addresses holding at least 10,000 BTC, including balances above that level. The series is measured in addresses: it counts very large balances rather than their combined coin holdings.

Hogyan értelmezzük

Because this is a small group, a handful of addresses entering or leaving can materially change the series. The high was 126 on June 28, 2016, compared with 104 at the April 2024 halving and 87 on October 17, 2026. A lower count can reflect large balances being divided among more wallets, rather than a reduction in the BTC owned by their controllers.

Exchange and custodian storage arrangements can strongly shape this tier, and one address may pool assets for many clients. The count neither identifies individual whales nor measures their net purchases. Pair it with the 10K–100K BTC and > 100K BTC supply bands to see whether fewer addresses also hold less supply.

GYIK

Why are there fewer than a few hundred 10,000-BTC addresses?

The threshold selects exceptionally large single-address balances. Even large owners may distribute funds among smaller addresses, so the count is much smaller than the number of people or institutions with substantial BTC exposure.

Does a falling 10,000-BTC count mean whales have left?

Not necessarily. Dividing a qualifying balance among addresses below 10,000 BTC removes it from this count even if ownership is unchanged. Large service wallets can also move funds for operational reasons.

Can the count fall while concentration increases?

Yes. Combining several qualifying addresses into one reduces the count and concentrates their coins at one address. Supply shares and ownership analysis are needed to assess concentration beyond this headcount.
