Om denne måling

Hvad den måler

UTXOs in Loss counts unspent transaction outputs whose creation-time BTC price is higher than the price at the daily observation. Each output counts once regardless of amount; losses are unrealized, with the creation price used as a proxy for cost basis.

Sådan læses den

A rising count means more outputs carry a cost above current price, either as price falls through existing cost levels or the output set changes. The series reached about 238.57 million on June 30, 2026, a record count that still needs to be read against the size of the outstanding output set.

Absolute loss counts grow with the size and fragmentation of the UTXO set, so compare them with the same day’s total rather than treating an old count as a fixed stress threshold. Internal transfers reset creation prices without a purchase, and tiny outputs receive the same count as large ones.

FAQ

Do UTXOs in Loss measure realized losses?

No. They are outputs still unspent whose estimated cost exceeds current price. Realized-loss measures instead examine outputs when they are spent.

Can the loss count fall without holders selling at a loss?

Yes. A price recovery can move existing outputs back into profit without any on-chain transaction. Spending an output also removes it from the unspent population, whatever the reason for the transfer.

Why is a record UTXO loss count not necessarily record market distress?

The total number of outputs changes over time, and outputs are not weighted by BTC value. Normalize against the contemporaneous set and compare with supply-weighted loss measures.
