Om denne måling

Hvad den måler

Exchange Whale Withdrawal to Balance Ratio divides withdrawals attributed to large entities by the corresponding exchange reserve balance, expressed as a percentage. It measures a selected group’s outward transfers relative to the reserve base, rather than total net flow.

Sådan læses den

A higher reading means larger whale withdrawals relative to reserves; a lower reading means smaller relative withdrawals. The full-history median is about 3.75%, while the October 17, 2026 observation was about 1.08%, near the second percentile of the supplied history. That places the relative transfer intensity in context, not the intentions of the recipients.

Withdrawals can go to custodians or other venues and do not prove long-term accumulation. The whale classification, venue coverage, flow window and reserve denominator must match for comparisons; do not assume the entity threshold is also a minimum size for each transfer. Small reserve bases can magnify the ratio.

FAQ

Does this ratio measure net whale outflow?

No. It compares whale withdrawals with reserves and does not subtract whale deposits. A high reading can occur even when other inflows leave the exchange’s total balance unchanged or higher.

Do whale withdrawals mean coins are moving into long-term storage?

That is one possibility, but custody transfers, settlements and moves to another exchange can produce withdrawals too. Destination and subsequent activity are needed to distinguish them.

Why can a whale withdrawal ratio look extreme in early history?

The relative size depends on the reserve denominator as well as withdrawals. The series recorded 100% on December 7, 2011; that observation alone does not establish a withdrawal of all unique reserve coins or a market turning point.
