Om denne måling

Hvad den måler

Total Addresses counts distinct addresses that have appeared on the Bitcoin blockchain up to each date. Every address is counted once and remains in the cumulative total even after its balance is spent or it stops being used; the unit is addresses.

Sådan læses den

The total rises as previously unseen addresses appear, so the slope or change over a period conveys more than a new record alone. It grew from about 647.83 million at the May 2020 halving to about 1.29 billion at the April 2024 halving. By October 17, 2026, it was about 1.56 billion, roughly 106 million above the year-earlier total.

Cumulative addresses do not measure current holders or active users. Change outputs, privacy practices and service deposit addresses all expand the total, even without new participants. The default logarithmic scale makes proportional growth visible across the long history; equal vertical moves represent equal percentage changes, not equal numbers of addresses.

FAQ

Why does Total Addresses keep rising during quiet markets?

Previously seen addresses are never removed when emptied or abandoned. Routine wallet use continues to create new addresses, so the cumulative total can grow while daily activity or price declines.

How is Total Addresses different from non-zero balance addresses?

Non-zero balance addresses count only addresses currently holding BTC. Total Addresses also includes spent and abandoned addresses, making it much larger and unsuitable as a count of current holders.

Can Total Addresses be used to count Bitcoin users?

No. One wallet may create thousands of addresses, and a single custodial address may represent many users. The total records Bitcoin's address history rather than its human population.
