A spike means supply that sat through at least two years has moved, while low values indicate little spending from that older stock. The largest reading was about 225,172 BTC on December 4, 2018, when the accompanying BTC price was about $3,886. This shows that major dormancy breaks also occur at low prices, rather than only during strong rallies.
A few large outputs can dominate a day, and the data alone does not identify the owners or purpose of the transfers.
