สิ่งที่วัด

Realized Loss by Holding Period adds up the USD loss on coins spent below their previous last-move price and groups it by age immediately before spending. For each qualifying coin, the price decline is multiplied by BTC volume; the bands run from <24h to >10y, with Total covering all bands.

วิธีอ่าน

Rising losses in 1d–1w or 1w–1m point to recently moved coins being repriced lower; a surge in 1y–2y reveals losses on much older holdings. The latter band reached about $3.94 billion on November 18, 2022, while 1m–3m had its own peak of about $1.19 billion on June 13 that year, showing that loss events can involve different acquisition periods.

A low reading can mean little spending rather than an absence of underwater holders. Internal transfers can realize a measured on-chain loss without a sale, and higher BTC prices make nominal USD losses across cycles hard to compare. Some old bands remain at zero in this dataset; zero loss does not mean no coins of that age moved.

คำถามที่พบบ่อย

Are realized losses shown as negative values?

No. This chart shows the positive magnitude of losses in USD, summed separately from profits. A larger value means more loss was realized, not a net profit.

Why can old coins move while their realized loss stays at zero?

Only transfers below the coins' previous cost contribute a loss. Coins acquired cheaply can move at a profit even during a market decline, leaving their age band's loss at zero.

Does the 3m–6m band equal long-term holders?

No. The usual long-term holder boundary is about 155 days, which lies inside 3m–6m. The age bands cannot be mapped to long- and short-term holders by adding whole bands alone.
