Mempool Total BTC Volume sums the BTC volume recorded for transactions waiting in the observed mempool. It is a pending coin-amount measure in BTC, distinct from both the fees offered and the virtual space those transactions require.

Rising volume means more BTC is associated with the waiting queue, but it may come from just a few large transfers. The series peaked around 262,734 BTC on April 10, 2022, compared with a full-history median near 5,832 BTC; its peak date differs from those of transaction count and virtual size.
BTC amounts do not determine transaction size or urgency. Change, internal wallet moves and chains of pending transactions complicate interpretation as economic settlement. This is a queue observation, so summing daily values would recount persistent transactions, and a recorded zero does not prove all network activity stopped.

Does pending BTC volume measure money entering Bitcoin?
No. The coins already exist and are associated with transactions awaiting confirmation. The total does not identify a purchase, a new owner or capital entering the market.
Why can BTC volume jump without a similar increase in mempool size?
A transaction can move a large BTC amount with few inputs and outputs. Coin amount and virtual size describe different properties, so a large-value transfer need not occupy much block space.
Can daily pending BTC volumes be added to get settlement volume?
No. The same pending transaction may appear on several days, and the queue can include linked transactions involving the same coins. Confirmed settlement volume requires a separate flow measure and a clear treatment of change and internal transfers.
