Mitä se mittaa

Spent Volume in Profit by Holding Period sums the BTC value of outputs spent each day above their last-moved price, grouped by their age immediately before spending. The 12 bands run from <24h to >10y; Total is the combined profitable transfer volume, in BTC, rather than the dollar profit earned.

A rise in <24h can reflect rapid turnover, whereas a jump in 5y–7y or >10y identifies profitable movement of much older coins. On July 4, 2025, the >10y band reached about 80,016 BTC, its highest daily value in the supplied history: large old-coin movements can dominate a normally quiet band.

Profit here compares prices at two on-chain moves; it does not establish that a sale occurred. Internal wallet transfers can qualify, repeated spending can count the same coins more than once in a day, and early zeros or long periods before an age band existed make full-history percentiles difficult to compare.

How is profitable spent volume different from realized profit?

This chart counts the BTC moved at a higher price than its previous move. Realized profit measures the price gain on those coins in USD, so a large BTC volume need not mean a large dollar gain.

Does an increase in an old age band mean long-term holders sold?

It confirms older coins moved at a higher reference price. Custody migrations and transfers between a holder's own wallets can create the same pattern, so exchange inflows provide useful context.

Why is the >10y series zero through much of the early history?

Bitcoin began in January 2009, so coins could not reach ten years of age before 2019. Later zeros can mean no qualifying profitable spending was recorded that day.
