Mitä se mittaa

Spent Volume in Loss by Wallet Size groups the daily BTC amount spent below previous last-move cost by address balance. It covers bands from <0.001 BTC to >100K BTC and reports their combined Total in BTC, excluding the depth of the price loss.

Näin luet sitä

Rising volume across several balance groups indicates broader below-cost activity; a spike in one group indicates concentration of transferred BTC. The 1K–10K BTC group reached about 2.73 million BTC on June 16, 2022, while >100K BTC peaked near 3.90 million BTC on December 7, 2011. These are transfer-volume extremes, not counts of individual coins or owners exiting.

Balances alone cannot distinguish private holders from exchanges or custodians, and one owner can use many addresses. Repeated internal turnover can make spent volume large relative to the group's holdings, especially when coins move only slightly below cost. Pair it with USD losses to separate the scale of movement from its financial impact.

Why can loss volume be much larger than one large wallet's balance?

This is daily aggregate spent volume across the whole balance group, not a snapshot of a single wallet. Repeated transfers can count BTC again, so it should not be read as unique supply leaving one owner.

Does a large balance group's loss volume identify forced selling?

No. It shows transfers below a measured prior cost, but cannot establish a sale or its motive. Custody migrations, internal movements and normal turnover can all contribute.

Can USD loss rise while BTC loss volume falls?

Yes. A smaller BTC amount transferred farther below cost can generate a larger USD loss. Comparing this chart with Realized Loss by Wallet Size helps separate loss volume from loss severity.
