Om denne måling

Hvad den måler

Realized Price by Holding Period gives the BTC-weighted average last-move price of unspent coins within each age band, in USD per BTC. Each band's realized cost is divided by its coin supply, from <24h to >10y; Overall is the average for all circulating coins.

Sådan læses den

Compare BTC price with each cost line: price above a line means that age group is in aggregate profit, and price below it means aggregate loss. Young bands follow recent repricing, while older bands retain earlier costs. By October 17, 2026, 1y–2y had an average cost near $100,015, compared with about $30,595 for 3y–5y.

Coins age into new bands without a transaction, so a changing group average does not necessarily mean fresh capital arrived. Transfers reset coin age even when ownership is unchanged, and lost coins can keep the oldest bands' costs low. These are cohort averages, not price targets or a distribution of supply by price.

FAQ

How is realized price by age different from HODL Waves?

HODL Waves show how much supply belongs to each age band. This chart shows the average USD cost per BTC within those bands, so it describes their entry levels rather than their size.

Why can an older age band's realized price rise without spending?

Coins pass into older bands as time elapses. If the incoming coins carry higher costs than the existing members, the band's average rises even without a transfer that day.

Why does the >10y cost line start much later?

Bitcoin launched in 2009, so coins could not qualify for that age band during its first decade. This series first records a value on January 7, 2019.
