Om denne måling

Hvad den måler

Supply by Wallet Size sums BTC held by addresses in ten balance ranges, from <0.001 BTC to >100K BTC, with Total showing the combined supply. It is a balance distribution in BTC, not the number of addresses in each range or the size of daily transfers.

Sådan læses den

Growth in smaller bands can indicate coins spreading across smaller balances, while growth in larger bands shows more supply concentrated in large addresses. The 0.1–1 BTC group reached about 1.10 million BTC on October 12, 2024, its historical maximum; compare its share of Total as well as the absolute balance when judging changes over time.

Address sizes are not investor identities. Exchanges and custodians may pool many users in large wallets, and splitting a large address into smaller ones can make holdings look more distributed without changing ownership; crossing a band boundary can also shift an address's whole balance between groups.

FAQ

Does >100K BTC mean one investor owns that much bitcoin?

No. A large address may hold pooled exchange or custody balances for many clients. Conversely, one investor can divide holdings across many addresses.

Why can adjacent balance groups move in opposite directions?

An address can cross a threshold after receiving or spending coins, moving its remaining balance into a new group. That reclassification can affect both groups without an equal-sized trade between two investors.

How is this different from the number of addresses by balance?

This metric counts BTC held, whereas an address-count metric counts addresses. A group with few addresses can hold more BTC than a group containing many small ones.
