Om denne måleverdien

Hva den måler

Realized Profit by Profit Margin groups spent coins by their gain relative to last-move cost and sums the positive USD price differences multiplied by BTC volume. Bands such as 0% to 20%, 100% to 300% and >300% classify returns; the plotted values and Total are dollar profits.

Slik leser du den

Growth in 0% to 20% shows profits realized on coins relatively close to cost, while a surge in >300% highlights much larger gains per unit of original cost. On May 28, 2024, >300% recorded about $9.58 billion, compared with a $10.07 billion Total. This separates modest-gain turnover from large gains that may be concentrated in low-cost coins.

Band height combines the number of BTC moved and the gain per BTC; it does not show how many holders earned that return. Transfers can refresh cost without a market sale, and nominal USD peaks are sensitive to price and market size. Negative-return groups add zero to realized profit, with losses reported separately.

FAQ

Does >300% mean the coins are worth three times their cost?

A gain above 300% means the spending value is more than four times the previous cost, because the original capital is included in the value multiple. The series shows the dollar gain on those coins, not their full spending value.

Is a high-return band necessarily the largest by BTC volume?

No. A small amount of low-cost BTC can generate more profit than a larger amount with a modest gain. Coin volume and gain size must be examined separately.

Why are loss bands present in a realized-profit breakdown?

The field list uses the same return bands across several metrics. Negative-return bands have zero realized profit and are hidden by default; their losses do not reduce Total here.
