Om denne måleverdien

Hva den måler

The 1k–10k BTC series measures the combined BTC held by entities with total balances between 1,000 and 10,000 BTC. It uses groups of related addresses to follow this large-balance cohort instead of treating each wallet address as a separate holder.

Slik leser du den

Higher readings show a larger pool of supply in this band, while sustained declines show a smaller one. Its record was 3.640 million BTC on August 1, 2017; holdings were about 2.668 million BTC on October 17, 2026. This reduction concerns this specific size band, not all large Bitcoin holders.

The commonly used whale label is only a balance shorthand. Exchanges and other pooled services may also qualify, and crossing the 1,000 or 10,000 BTC boundaries shifts whole positions. Compare adjacent bands before treating a decline as broad large-holder distribution.

FAQ

Is 1k–10k BTC entity supply the same as all whale holdings?

No. It covers just the 1,000–10,000 BTC band. Entities with 10,000–100,000 BTC or more than 100,000 BTC are separate groups.

Why can this cohort fall while larger cohorts rise?

An entity growing beyond 10,000 BTC leaves this band and joins a higher one with its whole balance. Changes in address clustering can also move balances between cohorts.

Does an entity holding thousands of BTC represent one wealthy person?

Not necessarily. A cluster can represent a company or a service pooling many customers’ coins, so entity size does not reveal the number or wealth of underlying owners.
