Sending Entities measures how many distinct entities send BTC on-chain each day. Addresses inferred to share a controller are grouped before counting, and each sender contributes one to the daily count even if it makes multiple transfers.

An increase points to a broader set of entities moving coins, rather than simply more transfers from the same senders. The series reached 228,904 on August 20, 2023, slightly above its 2021 high of 227,782, so elevated activity has occurred in different price environments. Falling readings indicate narrower sending participation.
Sending is not equivalent to selling: payments, custody transfers and wallet operations also move coins. Clustering errors, service wallets shared by many customers and off-chain exchange trading limit its use as a user count or a direct measure of market demand.
