Mit mér

Realized Profit: Long- vs Short-Term Holders separates daily USD gains on spent coins into Long-term holders and Short-term holders, with an age boundary of about 155 days. Each group sums BTC volume multiplied by the positive difference between spending price and previous last-move price; Total combines the gains.

Hogyan értelmezzük

A rising Long-term holders contribution means more gains are being realized on older supply; rising Short-term holders profits show gains among more recently moved coins. On May 28, 2024, long-term holders recorded roughly $9.81 billion of the $10.07 billion Total. By contrast, the short-term series reached its own maximum near $3.68 billion on February 9, 2021.

A cohort can contribute most of the dollars because its cost is lower, not because it moved most of the BTC. Transfers within custody arrangements may generate measured profits without a change of beneficial owner. The cutoff describes coin age rather than conviction, and these gross gains exclude losses realized by either group on the same day.

GYIK

Does LTH realized profit mean long-term holders' balances fell?

It shows that older coins moved above cost, not the net change in the cohort's holdings. Coins maturing into the long-term group can offset the amount leaving it.

How is this different from LTH and STH SOPR?

Realized profit is a USD gain amount. SOPR divides spending value by original cost for all coins spent within each cohort, including loss-making transfers, so it measures a return multiple rather than gross gains.

Does a profit spike show how much new money entered Bitcoin?

No. It records the positive repricing of spent coins relative to their previous cost. Internal transfers can contribute, and simultaneous losses mean this amount is not the network's net capital change.
