Tietoa tästä mittarista

Mitä se mittaa

Total Transaction Fees is the sum of fees paid by Bitcoin transactions included in blocks each day, in sats. A transaction’s fee is its input value minus its output value; the daily total goes to miners in addition to newly issued block subsidies.

Näin luet sitä

Higher totals mean the network paid miners more in fees, through more fee-paying activity, higher fee rates or both. The series peaked at about 149,590 million sats on December 22, 2017; April 20, 2024 reached about 125,770 million sats, another prominent spike. Lower totals mean a smaller fee contribution denominated in sats.

A daily sum is not the cost of a typical transaction, and isolated overpayments or wallet consolidations can dominate it. The number of blocks mined also varies by day. It excludes subsidy revenue, and its ranking in sats can differ from a ranking converted into dollars at each day’s price.

Does Total Transaction Fees include new bitcoins mined that day?

No. Newly issued coins are the block subsidy and are separate. Total miner revenue combines that subsidy with transaction fees.

Is this the total fee paid since Bitcoin began?

No. Each point is a daily flow, not a running cumulative total. Add daily observations to measure fee revenue over a longer period.

Was the largest fee total in sats necessarily the most expensive day in dollars?

Not necessarily. Dollar fee totals depend on both fees in sats (divided by 100,000,000) and that day’s BTC price, so the date of the dollar-denominated maximum may differ from the maximum in sats.
